A Presidential Declaration

Yesterday was elections here in the DR. It wasn't a Presidential election, just an election of governors and senators and stuff like that. I guess these elections are almost a bigger deal here though because these people affect the general population's lives more closely. For example, if the current governor isn't fixing your road and he gets re-elected, you're pretty mad because you know he probably still won't fix your road. (Getting roads fixed is a pretty big deal here where many roads are pretty nasty and full of potholes. We say that the road next to mine is like driving in an egg carton because of all the huge dips and holes in it...close your eyes and imagine how this would feel...it just might make you laugh!) Well anyways, since these elections are such a big deal and some people have to travel a long way back to their hometown to vote, the president declared that everything needed to be closed down from Saturday at noon until Monday at noon. When did he decide to do this? Friday afternoon! Haha! Surprise 3-day weekend for me! Hey, I'm not complaining! :D It did make us lose our day off on Memorial Day because now we have to go to school that day to make up for this day or we won't have enough school days in the year. Oh well though. An extra day off is much needed and very welcome this weekend!

Prayer Requests:
*Safety and peace here. I haven't seen anything, but I've heard that there can be riots and stuff after the results of the elections come out because people get so mad if their guy didn't win or if they think it was unfair. It's highly possible for it to be unfair too...the votes are on paper and have to be all counted and added up.
*There is a bullying issue going on in my classroom that is a pretty big deal. Pray for wisdom in dealing with that and that the girls would understand what they are doing to each other and have a change of heart.
*Summer is coming SOON! This is very happy and very sad for me! I'm happy because I'll soon be home seeing all of you again, which will be wonderful! I'm sad because some of my very dear friends will not be returning to the DR next year, so summer coming means saying goodbye to them. This will NOT be easy!
*Safe trip home on June 14th.

Hi, Mandy.

We use a program called Second Step to help with the bullying issue at the MS. The organization who developed the program is at this web address.

Maybe there are some ideas you can use.
